Workshop description:

Participants will meet volunteer organizations in Messina and its districts, working in the field of social inclusion. Our volunteer and solidarity commitment is oriented in promoting and supporting experiences of social and fair trade economy, in a system that aims to set up concrete actions of social and working inclusion for people with a background of social exclusion. We will highlight volunteer experiences that promote forms of ethically oriented and sustainable consumption ( i.e. organic food, agricultural products realized in farmlands that have been confiscated to criminal organizations).

Learners will visit local experiences managed by volunteers in the field of responsible and social tourism, fair trade, with a particular focus on gastronomy and sustainable tourism. Visits will be organized in these structures so that the participants would share their experiences with social workers ( i.e. slow food restaurants, educational farmhouse, social enterprises in agriculture, local artisans’ atelier) . Learners will be guided round a gastronomic tour to discover Sicilian traditional flavours and places. They will also take part in seminars with volunteers and experts in local economy to reflect on their territories. Local migrant organizations will play an active role in the workshop by promoting their culture through events and gastronomic tradition.

Learners will share their ideas, experiences and work together on good practice in the connection between volunteering and social economy, to support people, local communities and their traditions.
