auser AUSER is an association of project aimed at the promotion and appreciation of aged people and their relationships, and inspired by the principles of social equity and respect for elderly, safeguarding of rights, developing of opportunities for the common good. It is a voluntary association operating to promote active citizenship for the elderly so to increase their role in the society. Founded in 1989 on the initiative of the CGIL union pensioners and SPI-CGIL, aims to combat all forms of social exclusion, to improve the quality of life, to spread the culture and practice of solidarity so that every person can develop its own plan of life through which become a resource for themselves and for others.

AUSER works to give the elderly a chance to meet others, enrich their skills and contribute to the growth of the communities where they live.
Among the initiatives already carried out by the provincial AUSER of Messina:

ANZIANI SICURI (Elderly Safe project), in collaboration with the State Police and the District III;
ESTATE FRESCHI (Fresh and happy Summer project), in collaboration with the State Property Office, Dept of Agriculture and Forestry;
LE QUATTRO MUSE The four Muses project, drama workshop for the elderly aimed at the creation of a group, made of young and less young actors, we called JES, that stands for “Juvenes et Seniors” able to perform a recital of poems, one-act scenes, sketches and also comedies (the last one "the revealed truth" by Pirandello, adapted by S. Ruggiano). We enjoyed also the cooperation of the Center for Volunteer Services of Messina;
Support the construction of the project terms of volunteer organizations in the community, in collaboration with the Center for Volunteer Services of Messina and the SB area.

A telephone number available to elderly in particular for solidarity and for the protection of citizens' rights
A service of social secretariat, to overcome loneliness also supported the fundraiser, which takes place every year, through the sale of organic pasta produced by the cooperative "Placido Rizzotto" with the wheat produced in the lands confiscated to Mafia bosses.

The AUSER Sicily is composed of a structure of 10 regional and local structures, as well as 65 clubs.
The members in 2010 to date are 10,251.
